Coal handling in Russian ports rises 15% to 46 mln tns in Jan–Mar

MOSCOW, Apr 19 (PRIME) -- Handling of coal and coke in Russian sea ports increased by 14.5% on the year to 45.8 million tonnes in January–March, as seen by PRIME in materials the Association of Commercial Sea Ports on Monday.

The Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport said previously that the combined cargo traffic of Russian seaports fell by 4.5% to 198.11 million tonnes in January–March, with dry cargo handling rising 7.9% to 95.33 million tonnes and handling of liquid cargoes falling 13.6% to 102.78 million tonnes.

The Association of Commercial Sea Ports says the container traffic rose 2.1% on the year to 14.6 million tonnes in the period, the grain handling grew 7% to 10.8 million tonnes, the traffic of ferrous metals increased by 12.3% to 7.3 million tonnes, of mineral fertilizers by 7.3% to 4.4 million tonnes, and of ore by 4.2% to 2.5 million tonnes. Transshipment of packaged goods and non-ferrous metals remained flat on the year at 1 million tonnes and 900,000 tonnes, respectively.

Handling of timber cargoes contracted by 18.2% to 900,000 tonnes and of scrap metal by 14.3% to 600,000 tonnes.

Transshipment of fell by 18.7% to 55.8 million tonnes, of oil products by 7.3% to 37 million tonnes, of liquefied natural gas by 4.5% to 8.5 million tonnes, of foods by 7.1% to 1.3 million tonnes, and of chemical goods by 33.3% to 200,000 tonnes, the association’s data read.
